The Hay Festival, set in the quiet town of Hay-on-Wye on the Wales/England border, is hosted during the end of May each year. Since it's conception in 1988 by a young actor named Peter Florence, the Hay Festival has grown steadily to become the largest literary festival in the world, attracting some of the greatest writers, film-makers, actors and comics to speak as guests.
The audience attendance has grown in recent years to 70,000 people, travelling from far and wide to witness this exciting spectacle. Over the last nineteen years the festival has hosted a large number of famous people including John Updike, Arthur Miller, William Golding, Germaine Greer, Harold Pinter, Bill Clinton and a whole host of Welsh writers.
Held in a tiny market town in the Brecon Beacons National Park, the Festival is a spectacular holiday party for friends to gather and enjoy books, food, drink, comedy, music, art, argument and world-class literature. So whether you are looking to learn, share, be inspired or simply experience the great atmostphere, the Hay Festival has something for you.
