Llandrindrod Wells is one of Wales' four spa towns and lies on a plateau, high above the River Ithon. Although it doesn't have quite as picturesque a setting as Llanwrtyd Wells it is perhaps the prettiest of the Wells towns.

The town was most popular as a spa town in the Victorian era but people were taking the local mineral waters back in Roman times and there are remains of the Roman Fort Castell Collen just outside the town. They have recently devised a heritage trail around the town, which provides details of Llandrindrod Wells' history.

  • The spa itself is still in good working order (unlike its neighbouring spa towns) and you can sample it at the spa pump room. The town still has aspirations of greatness and a considerable amount of effort has gone into rekindling the fervour of the Victorian era.
