Llandovery is in east Carmarthenshire, in the northwest corner of the Brecon Beacons National Park. The name, translated from Welsh means, 'church amongst the waters' and came about because Llandovery lies in a valley between the rivers Bran and Twyi, while actually running through the town is the river Y Bawddwr and a fourth river, Afon Gwydderig, is nearby.

These days it is a busy market town with an attractive cobbled square and is known locally as something of a fishing centre.

• Places of interest include the castle ruins on a rocky hillock overlooking the river Bran and a monument to Llewelyn ap Gruffydd Fychan of Caeo, who was publicly executed in 1401 for refusing to betray Owain Glyndwr and the cause of Welsh freedom.
