Machynlleth in the Dyfi Valley is one of mid-Wales most attractive towns. It is hard to believe it today, but as recently as the 1950s the town was seriously considered as a candidate to be the Welsh capital. It had already had this title bestowed on it once in its past - Owain Glyndwr was proclaimed King here and made it the capital of Wales in 1404.
Today the town is popular with crystal-wearing, chakra-realigning New Agers and has a laid back, open-minded feel. There is a weekly market every Wednesday and there are some interesting shops, cafes and places to eat.
