The Welshpool & Llanfair Light Railway was built in the early part of the 20th century. It opened in 1903, its purpose being to link the rural communities to the market town of Welshpool. After 1931 only freight was carried until it eventually closed in 1956. The railway was reopened by a group of enthusiasts in 1963.
