Llandudno, the largest resort in Wales, nestles between the two hilly headlands of Great Orme and Little Orme. It boasts fine sandy beaches; North shore is the award winning main beach though West shore is no less appealing. West shore is where the, ‘Lewis Carroll memorial’ is held to commemorate the fact that the author stayed in Llandudno with the Liddells, parents of Alice, the girl for whom he wrote his famous story.
In the mid 19th century a local entrepreneur named Edward Mostyn decided that Llandudno would make an ideal genteel seaside resort, so popular in Victorian England. The development began and his plan was a great success. Until 1902 the summit of Great Orme was still relatively in accessible but all that changed with the opening of the tramway.
