Its breathtaking castle, built by Edward I in 1283, dominates the town of Harlech on Tremadog Bay. Harlech Castle has played a significant role in many of Britain’s key battles; it was a Lancastrian stronghold in the war of the roses and was staunchly royalist during the civil war. It can be visited today and, a tour is accompanied by an exhibition, which traces the fascinating history of the castle.

Salem chapel is one of the most famous chapels in Wales, worshippers here were baptised in the River Artro. Artist Curnow Vosper painted a picture of the chapel and the prints were used to advertise Sunlight soap.

  • Harlech is a jewel in the Cambrian coast and is both dramatic and welcoming in the same breath. It has a good selection of beaches both in and around the town that are well worth a visit.
