Cardiff, Wales' capital, is a proudly Welsh, forward looking city, small enough to explore easily, but with some world class attractions, historic sites, museums and galleries. The new Millennium Stadium, which hosts everything from rugby internationals to Madonna concerts, has certainly helped put it on the map.
Cardiff Bay, a mile south of the city centre, was once the seedy Victorian docks, but which has now been regenerated with public gardens, modern art sculptures, cruise trips and refreshments. It is also home to the National Assembly, the Welsh parliament, which signifies the first step towards true national independence.
The city has a good range of accommodation as well as a fine selection of international eateries.
