Pontypridd is home to what was once the largest single span, stone bridge in Europe. Built in 1775 by an amateur stonemason many of the previous attempts had collapsed into the river below so it was no small achievement to finally leave a legacy that has lasted over 200 years.

The Welsh national anthem, Land of my Fathers, or Hen Wlad fy Nhadau, was composed by a Pontypridd weaver Evan James and there is a statue commemorating him in Ynysangharad Park.

• Other famous faces from Pontypridd include Tom Jones and Sir Geraint Evans, both of whom are given a passing nod at the Pontypridd Museum. The museum is one of the best in The Valleys with photos, videos and models of the town and its valleys.
