Lying in the west of Carmarthen Bay is Pendine, famous for its famous 7 mile stretch of firm sands that were the Utah salt flats of the early 20th century - it was here that world land speed record attempts where made in the 1920s. In 1924 Sir Malcolm Campbell broke the world record of the day with a drive that averaged 146.16 mph.
Today the great stretch of sand is still there and the ambiguously named, Museum of Speed, charts the history of the beach and its time on the world stage.
