Weston-Super-Mare was a quiet fishing village at the start of the nineteenth century, its transformation into one of the West Country’s biggest seaside resorts started in Edwardian times.

If seaside amusements are your thing, you may find Weston has more to offer than other resorts in this part of the country – though a little faded these days, you will find a typical ‘front’ heaving with amusements, Winter Gardens, piers, donkey rides, a miniature railway and Punch & Judy shows. If candyfloss and 'kiss me quick' hats are not your thing, then head for the less developed beach at Sandy Bay.

  • Besides the usual seaside trappings Weston does have a lot to offer. Walkers will be interested to know that it is on the West Mendip Walk Way, which ends up thirty miles away in Bath and you can enjoy splendid views of the Welsh coast and Bristol Channel from nearby Worlebury Hill, which was once an Iron Age camp.
