Falmouth is at the centre of Cornwall's long and distinguished maritime tradition. Sir Walter Raleigh recognised the potential of its positioning and recommended its development as a port. The harbour is the largest in Cornwall and capable of handling 90,000 ton tankers. For the rather more refined, sea-faring Falmouth has The Royal Cornwall Yacht Club.

Falmouth attracts tourists in their droves, who come for the numerous sandy beaches, balmy climate and substantial shopping area.

Other attractions include: The National Maritime Museum on the quayside and Pendennis Castle, which offers panoramic views of Carrick Roads and Falmouth Bay.
