Trowbridge is the county town of Wiltshire, and in the 14th century Flemish weavers arrived, bringing with them the skills that would foster Wiltshire’s famous carpet industry. By the 18th century business was booming, and you can still see the grand town houses of many of the wealthy cloth merchants, who lived in the area. Near Devizes you can see the impressive sight of the Kennet-Avon canal passing over Caen Hill with the help of 29 locks.
