The Somerset region is easily accessible from all directions by road, rail, air and sea.
To fly to Somerset, Bristol International Airport is the closest airport to the region, approximately 25 miles from Bridgwater. There are flights from many UK airports and some European cities.
To arrive in Somerset by ferry, the port at Poole is approximately 70 miles from Bridgwater and has crossings to Cherbourg in France and the Channel Isles. The port at Plymouth is around 80 miles away with crossings to Roscoff, France and also Santander, Spain in summer.
For travel by train, the mainline from Bristol to Penzance runs through the region, with stations at both Bridgwater and Taunton.
To drive into Somerset, the M5 motorway passes directly through the towns of Bridgwater and Taunton, as it travels southwards from Gloucestershire to Exeter. The A372 offers a route to Wells, just south-east of Bridgwater, passing through the town of Shepton Mallet. East of Shepton Mallet on the A361 is the small town of Frome which is located on the Wiltshire border. To the west of Bridgwater along the A39 lies the coastal towns of Watchet and Minehead, situated near Exmoor National Park, just beyond the Quantock Hills. The historic town of Glastonbury lies to the East of Bridgwater, beyond the Polden Hills along the A39, while to the north along the A38, lies the town of Cheddar, which offers the amazing sight of Cheddar Gorge.
