Princetown is one of the larger centres within the Dartmoor National Park and owes its fame to the close by high security jail Dartmoor Prison.

The town itself has a somewhat grim atmosphere in places. Some of the building where actually built by French and American prisoners, resulting in a close resemblance to the functional stone prison houses!

  • Nearby Grimspound was occupied some 3000 year ago and is home to Dartmoor's most complete prehistoric settlement, in the form of 24 circular huts.
